WHAT TO DO IF YOU SEEK COUNSELLING: |
What is Counselling – it’s good to talk
Counselling is a process which takes place between a client and their counsellor
in a private and confidential setting. Counsellors are trained to listen without
judging and help you to explore your feelings. They can help you feel better about
yourself and change the way you think and act in everyday life. They can’t perform
miracles, but they can help you help yourself – even at times when you may feel
helpless. |
How Long will Counselling Last? |
To start, most people who come to the NSCCP are offered six sessions. If you and
your counsellor feel you may benefit from further sessions, this can be arranged
but as a short-term counselling service this will only be up to a year. Weekly sessions
last for fifty minutes. |
Is Counselling Confidential? |
Whatever you discuss is between you and your counsellor. Your personal details and
the content of the sessions will be protected at all times. Maintaining strict confidentiality
is part of the code of ethics by which the NSCCP is bound as an organisational member
of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). On rare occasions
confidentiality may need to be broken. This will only happen if a counsellor has
serious concerns regarding your welfare, or that of someone close to you |
Who will be Counselling me? |
All of our counsellors are either fully qualified, or have completed at least one
year’s training and are working forwards further qualifications. Each counsellor
is carefully screened before he or she can work for the NSCCP. Their work is supervised
to make sure they provide a completely professional, appropriate and ethical service.
All our counsellors are volunteers. |
How much will it cost? |
The NSCCP is a non-profit making charity offering counselling on a sliding scale
fee basis. We’ll take into account how much you can afford to pay and charge you
fees accordingly. |
Ethos of the service |

number of local community venues. The Partnership is a non-profit making charity
providing counselling on a sliding scale basis. Donations are agreed on an individual
basis according to the circumstances and no one will be refused counselling due
to inability to pay. Clients will not be discriminated against on the grounds of

beliefs |
